Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack:
I like to snack no matter what I'm doing! But yes, I do. Even when I eat meals I either have a book or am watching TV. My family rarely eats together so I have to occupy my mind somehow while I feed my tummy.
What is your favorite drink while reading?
My favorite drink of all time is milk, but I tend to have a glass of water beside my bed where I do most of my reading.
Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
I don't write in my books but it doesn't horrify me to know that some people do. Most of the books I read come from the library so it would be rather inappropriate to write in them.
How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
I use homemade bookmarks (I tear a notecard into four pieces). I can't use real bookmarks because I lose them like crazy so it would be a waste. The notecards are cheap and easy and if I lose one (or ten) it's no big deal. I used to dog ear when I was growing up but since most of my books come from the library and I like my books to remain in better condition, I don't any more. I lay the book flat if I'm going to be back in a few minutes (like bathroom breaks) but not for long periods of time.
Fiction, non-fiction, or both?
Mostly fiction but I try to get one or two nonfiction books a month into my reading. I particularly enjoy biographies.
Are you the type of person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you?
No, I don't treat my books or library books in such a way. I'm more likely to hit the wall.
If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
I never look up words. I figure it out from context clues or I let it go.
What are you currently reading?
The Two Towers (JRR Tolkien) [Lord of the Ring 2]
Enna Burning (Shannon Hale) [Books of Bayern 2]
Charlie Bone and the Red Knight (Jenny Nimmo) [Children of the Red King 8]
Little Women (Louisa May Alcott)
What is the last book you bought?
For myself? Catching Fire (Suzanne Collins) [Hunger Games 2]
I rarely buy books for myself. I only buy them after I've already read them and know that I want to own them and will reread them. Otherwise I just borrow them from the library.
Are you the type of person that reads one book at a time, or can you read more than one? Shouldn't they have asked this question BEFORE they asked what we're reading? I obviously read more than one book at a time. I've found this helps me get through books that I find I'm not all that interested in once I start. This often happens when I read a book that is an award winner and that's the only reason I'm reading it.
Do you have a favorite time/place to read? I have a few favorite places to read.. my bed, a chair in the living room and now that the weather is nice, I'm really enjoying reading on the porch. I prefer to read in the morning or late afternoon. Early afternoon and nighttime puts me to sleep.
Do you prefer series books or stand alones?
Also answered by the "what are you reading" question. I prefer series books. I like to journey with characters.
Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over?
Over the past year or so I've been recommending the Hunger Games series to anyone and everyone that has the slightest interest in YA books.
How do you organize your books? (by genre, title, author's last name, etc.)
I organize my books by author's last name. I need to expand my bookshelves though and I've decided to pull out all of my hardcover books (most of which were purchased in the past few years) and have a "current/favorite" bookshelf also.
